What’s a yarn ball winder? Well, it’s a handy dandy little doohicky that will help you take your hanks of yarn and turn them into Yarn balls or “cakes” as we like to call them, so it’s easier to process the yarn. There are a ton of Yarn Ball Winders on the market ranging from $15 to about $260, it all depends on what works for your needs. The reason you may want to wind your yarn into cakes is because if we keep yarn in hanks its extremely easy to get it all tangled. . . then we’d have to untangle it all before moving forward. Buying a yarn ball winder was one of the best investments I made in my business very early on. It saves me time and frustration, not to mention it can also be a very zen experience.

I use a lot of t-shirt yarn and am looking for a yarn ball winder that will work with the thicker t-shirt yarn do you have any suggestions?

Hello Alexis, I don’t have much experience with thicker yarns so I can’t speak specifically to that. I’m sorry. 🙁

“Hi! Just wanted to say that you did a GREAT job of explaining the HDC (half double crochet) edging for a single crochet blanket in your YouTube video. Thank you so much! God Bless” - Donna M.
