If you want to learn how to crochet, this series I’ll be doing (re-doing) on YouTube is for you! After learning how to create a slip knot and chain the next step is learning how to do a Single Crochet. A single crochet is the first stitch I learned because it was the first stitch in the easiest pattern I could find. Mastering the chain and the single crochet will give you the skills to build upon in crochet.

How do you single crochet? Here are the steps written out in layman’s terms and as a crochet washcloth pattern (just in case you don’t yet know how to read a crochet pattern)

Washcloth Pattern: Using worsted weight cotton yarn and an H hook

Single crochet directions: Insert hook into stitch, pull up a loop, then with two loops on the hook, yarn over and pull the yarn through both loops on the hook.

Chain 23
Row 1: Single Crochet in second chain from the hook, and in every stitch across to the end. (22 stitches)
Row 2: Chain 1, single crochet in each stitch across
Rows 3 – 22: Repeat Row 2
Bind off and use!

Pattern “lingo”:

Ch 23
Row 1: SC in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each ch across to the end (22 stitches)
Row 2: Ch 1, sc in each st across
Row 3 – 22: Rep row 2
Bind off and use!
