How to crochet a basic hexagon

 

The Hexagon is a great basic shape to know how to crochet. Once you can crochet a hexagon, just like the granny square, it will open up a whole world of possibilities in beautiful crochet. The basic hexagon in this video is done with the following stitches:

 

 

The written instructions

  • Ch 4, sl st in first ch for circle
  • Rnd 1: ch 5, (3 dc, ch 2 into ring) 5 times, 2 dc into ring, sl st in 3rd ch of beg ch 5 DO NOT TURN
  • Rnd 2: ch 5, dc under starting ch, dc in next 3 sts, *(dc, ch 2, dc) in ch-2 sp, rep from * ending with sl st in 3rd ch of beg ch 5 DO NOT TURN
  • Rnd 3: ch 5, dc under starting ch, dc in next 5 sts, *(dc, ch 2, dc) in ch-2 sp, rep from * ending with sl st in 3rd ch of beg ch 5, BIND OFF
